will we still be able to get tax credits

Hubby will be here in the next 2 weeks, i know i will looe my singles persons rebate on council tax, btu i was wonderign will i still be entitled to my child tax credit. I will call them as soon as he is here to tell them he is now living with me, but i know we can not claimn as a couple as he is not allowed public funds, but am i right in believing i will still be entitled to this until he starts earning, do i still claim as single or do we claim as a married couple even though he is not entitled to public funds, can anyone shed light on this.

You will have to claim as a married couple despite his not being entitled to public funds. Be sure and stress, when you phone up, that he is an immigrant on a visa and not a permanent resident.

If he is not earning then the impact of his joining the household shouldn't effect the amount you get, (but don't hold me to that - it's just my take on the whole thing).

For tax credits, the claim must be made jointly.  As long as one person is eligible, it's ok.  Once he starts work, you'll have to let them know his income, and they'll adjust the tax credits accordingly.
