"must-see"s in Bristol?
« on: September 15, 2008, 09:09:20 AM »
This weekend I'll be in Bristol for a training. Will have Friday afternoon and Sat & Sun evening free. Any ideas of interesting things to do or see in that time? I'll be staying near the city centre.

You know that Bath is only a short train (like 10-20 minutes) away from Bristol?  :)

Oh & I always hear about the Clifton Suspension Bridge as a Bristol must-see!

The Harbourside is nice to wander around, you can take a circular ferry ride for not much money, if you like arts there are the Arnolfini, the Watershed, and the City Museum And Art Gallery

Check and see if The Wurzels are playing anywhere while you're there!
Go see them, and drink loads of cider!

Harbourside is nice. You can hang around the funky coffee houses and shops near the University (and see a few Banksy pieces). There are usually good shows on at the Thekla. There are a few cool museums and galleries.

Lots to do, but I wouldn't say there's anything entirely unmissable. (But that might just be because I live so close.)
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.

Fresh & Wild

Fresh and Wild closed down :( - it's just an empty building now (I walked past it the other day).

I'd definitely check out the Suspension Bridge and Clifton area, also the centre/Waterfront area too :). I have a friend from the US staying with me right now (just picked her up from the airport this morning) and we're off to check out Bristol this afternoon, so I'll let you know if there's anywhere else I can think of.

We're also planning on a trip to either Bath or Cardiff tomorrow too :)

Bristol - meh. Get thee to Bath instead!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
