I exercised my latest right as a British citizen. I voted.  ;D
I'm still feeling very chuffed about that!

Congratulations, both, on exercising your democratic rights, from a fellow British citizen!

Howard

PS. I'm interested to know, was the voting experience very different here, compared with the States?

Howard,,,I found it a bit odd to vote for the party rather than an individual.  Now I'm looking forward to a general election!

How lucky you are!  :)

I'm still waiting on my passport (US one) and paperwork to come back...taking forever, it is.   I expect I should have it by the next general election but I don't think I'll hold my breath.  ;)

Voting VERY different!
It was way more casual here. Less of a "ta da!". Odd to just be able to give your name without any proof of ID. I'm used to doing a lever/punch thing, rather than filling in something with a pencil. And, very strange to just put a big "X" in a single box and that's it! Though I understand you don't normally vote for several people all in one party, it was odd to vote by party rather than by person.

But the biggest difference was not walking away with a little sticker "I voted today!". I came out wanting everyone to know, and they treated it like it was no big deal. I think this country needs a small boost in showing its pride. I would have gladly walked around with a little sticker syaing I'd voted.

However, I must add that the people in front of us, you can tell it was their son's first vote because he was just as excited as I. That was really sweet to see.

I asked Phil if he'd get a little sticker because when my mother and I voted we always gave the stickers to the boys when we got home and I knew Charles would want one.  But no joy.   :P

I know what you mean, Lisa!  We don't tend to show much emotion about politics (at least not at the polling booths), and I've never been certain myself whether this is a weakness or a strength.  Also, you may find the atmosphere at a General Election more charged (well, slightly!), and you do get to vote for people rather than groups of them then.
