Dear All,
I am posting this as it maybe helpful.
My wife and I have been going through the process of trying to obtain her UK visa from the NY Consulate. We have found the process very stressful and the waiting has been unbearable!
We received an email this morning (US time) letting us know the visa has been issued! Best email I have ever received!
The time scales were as follows:
8th Sept - Submit the online application
11th Sept - Attend the Biometrics appointment
12th Sept- The NY Consulate receive our documents via FedEx
22nd Sept - 10:00 - Receive an email informing us our documents have been safely received and the estimated time for processing is 10 working days.
22nd Sept - 10:45 - Receive a very simple email with the line 'Your visa has been issued.'
So I guess in our case the processing time was 45 minutes. A very happy day, especially as we got both emails together!
The documents we submitted were:
for reference, I am British my wife is American:
Marriage Certificate
6 months of my bank statements
My lease for my apartment in the UK
A letter from my accountant confirming my salary - I run a small company
A job offer letter for my wife
A simple photocopy of my British passport and original long birth certificate
My wife's American passport
A letter from my American father-in-law explaining why they lived in the UK (over two years ago) and verifying that he knows me and a bit about my relationship to my wife.
A letter from my British father verifying he knows my wife etc.
Photographs from our wedding and before
A letter from myself (the sponsor)
Hope this helps as a 'real' example. I was worried the documents we submitted wouldn't have been enough, especially after reading other posts. I did read recently that they have changed the rules in regard to this.
I hope this helps anyone who is going through what we have been through - hang in there!
