Financial Stability...
« on: September 29, 2008, 05:57:20 PM »
I'm applying for a student visitor visa and I heard that they want to see that you have the funds to support yourself over in the UK.

I mean, I have a bank account with only a couple grand in it, and I could show them that along with my mothers, but I was mostly just going to be using a few credit cards when I get over there. How would I go about showing them that I have enough credit to spend in order to support myself over there? Thanks in advace-

Brian

I think they would like to know that you have enough savings/income to pay off any credit card debt.

If you're going for a student visa of any flavour, you'll need to show them the cost of attendance (which your school will provide) and proof that you have the funds to pay that (either through bank statements or financial aid such as loans or grants).

On top of this, you'll need to show enough funds to support yourself (things like food and housing). If this is all included in your tuition, your school's letter should state this very clearly. If not, you'll need to have proof of the funds (bank statements, etc.) that you'll be using.

With a student visa, you can't use any potential earnings over here as part of your application (and with student visitor, you can't work anyway). I think you'll have a difficult time making your case with credit cards, as it's a debt that would need constant repayment (as opposed to a student loan that is deferred while you're in school).

If you use your mother's account, you'll also need a sponsorship letter from her so they have proof that she's actually willing to give you that money in her account.

You should have a budget that includes housing, tuition, and other expenses. You should then have enough cash to cover that budget.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.
