RSVP options
« on: September 20, 2008, 03:50:20 PM »
Do you think it's okay to have people RSVP by email or phone? I was going to make the RSVP cards myself, but my BF asked if it would be okay for people to respond electronically. He starts claiming we're saving the environment by reducing the paper and carbon emissions. The Scottish blood runs thick, so I know what he's really saving!  :P  Honestly, I had thought of this myself, but I wasn't sure what people would think. Personally, I would have no problem getting this in an invitation. What do you think?

Traditionally, of course, this would be considered beyond the pale! But nowadays, I think you can get away with a lot. FWIW, even giving people the bloody stamped RSVP envelope complete with your address isn't going to guarantee they can get their sorry arses to the mail box! I speak from sad experience.

So I guess it depends upon how many sticklers for the rule book you have - I suppose you could do separate RSVP cards for them. I mean, we had people who were offended we had a gift registry so you can't win them all.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I'm not a very traditional person.  :P  The more I think about it, the more I think my family may be okay with this. My friends definitely would. I joked with one of my cousins that I was going to send E-vites and she thought that was a great idea! I'm not willing to take things to that level, but I think I may be with the RSVPs. The gift registry thing is a whole different topic!

It is perfectly acceptable, i know an invitation i got recently had thr address, email and mobile number to text. We live in sucha fast world, and also people living coutries apart it makes things so much easier.  also includedin my invites a postcard with asecond class stamp on, with the adress pre written on so all they had to tick was yes or no, and then a number, and had a space on their for special dietry requirements.

I had bought some little business cards that I was going to use for the RSVP. Maybe now I'll just print on them to where to RSVP on one side, then on the other side I may say where we're registered. Or, I may do the whole gift registry word of my mouth (i.e. my mother's).

I think it's a great idea to have people respond electronically. With the amount of waste and consumption it is a responsible and practical idea. Very 21st century!  ;)

I wouldn't mind at all if I was asked to rsvp by email  In fact, I'd probably think to myself, 'Fantastic!  Now I don't have to wallk all the way to the mailbox!'

Another vote here for yes! I think it's great and always prefer email anyway.

Just a thought, though - some of my relatives don't have an email address.  ::) Make sure everyone can respond via email, or make sure to put your phone number on for those that don't!

I probably wouldn't have done it for our actual wedding 'cause I'm a bit of a traditionalist, but we only invited people to a party a week later (our wedding was a closed event.  ;) ) so I didn't bother with cards and just gave people a phone number and an email and it worked GREAT!  :)

It's actually quite "old school traditional" to not include rsvp cards. People were supposed to use their own stationary. So you can look at it either way...you're going "green" and saving the environment or you're being "super traditional"  ;)

we set-up a jotform and then linked it to our website.  that way people could electronically RSVP for multiple events (rehersal, day after, tours, etc).  best option we found
