Shower Gifts
« on: May 30, 2004, 02:17:18 AM »
Hi all.  I am getting ready for tomorrow. Thinking ahead to Wednesday and the fact that I am leaving for good to move to England. (I will be back in Dec for a visit) I have a lot of shower gifts I am bringing back.  Do you think I will have a problem?  Most things are very light and packable, but should I take the wrapping off things so they don't try and charge me for bringing it all in?  I don't want to have to pay duty on gifts I received.  Why am I worrying about this?  But should I be?

I hope everyone is having a fun Memorial Day/Bank Holiday weekend!!!!

I was worried about that, too, but if you'll check out HMCE site you'll find that wedding gifts are specifically mentioned as being exempt from customs taxes.  You'll have to poke around on the site a bit to find it, but I promise it's there!   :)

Do go ahead and unwrap things...it'll be easier if you DO get searched in customs...that way you won't have to stand there while they open every single package.
