VISA APPROVED!
« on: October 07, 2008, 02:14:45 AM »
Here's my timeline:

September 20th: Completed and printed Visa Application
September 26th: Biometric appointment, FedEx'd application and supporting documents
September 29th: Recieved two e-mails stating that application is recieved and being processed- first asked to allow for 12 weeks to complete, second asked to allow for 5 working days
October 6th: Visa approved and issued!

I applied to the LA Consulate by post. They called me today and told me their decision. As soon as I hung up I screamed and went jumping up and down throught the house to my mom. I broke down into hysterical sobs as soon as I hugged her. For the next 30 minutes or so I'd switch between laughing and crying, the whole time unable to stop smiling.

I will be in my husbands arms within 20 days from today, and I will not have to say goodbye to him in 3 weeks, or 3 months, or 6 months for that matter. When I do, it will just be to visit the family for a couple weeks.

I believe I'm the happiest person alive right now.

This is a mirror of exactly how I reacted when I got my visa approval as well. There were even brief moments where I could FEEL a grin start to spread across my face and the ritual of jumping around and shouting "SQUEEE!" while tears poured down my cheeks would start all over again.

Congrats!!

Sounds just like what I did, then called my husband and through a mass of tears and sobs just kept saying, "I finally can go home, I finally can go home".

Congrats! Now go call your husband,  :P

Jamie (Jamiem627) and me are going through exactly the same process as you and are very stressed right now about the whole thing but I'm sure when she reads this she will be extremely pleased for you and I'm sure it will help the stress levels too.
CONGRATULATIONS

Thanks for your support, everybody!

WebyJ, I was actually talking to him online when they called. He knew the instant I did, and since we were on webcam, he could hear me screaming (unfortunately for his ears).

ALB1970 and Jamie; it is incredibly stressful. I remember thinking that it's been so long, I forgot how it felt not to have it constantly on my mind. It just seemed like one thing after another! I'm sure you feel the same way. We've been dealing with the distance and trying to sort out a visa for two years now- we couldn't find one that worked until he proposed to me on my birthday, then it was rather clear. Of course, we ran into trouble again when we found out that they were changing the eligibility age in December. My husband and I are only 19, and my birthday is in June. We found out in August, I believe. There was no way we would be able to accomplish the fiance visa and the marriage visa (so much money, so much to do, way too little time), so we just got married immediately. We had no choice; we were threatened with another two years apart. All of the waiting and hard work did pay off, and it will for you too. Please, just keep your heads up. I know it's hard sometimes, but it's worth it.

Whereabouts in the UK will you two be living?

Since posting on this thread we have had notification from USPS that they delivered our application, which stopped us convincing ourselves that it had been lost in the post. We are now waiting for the e-mail from LA to say they have received it.

The distance is tough to deal with and being apart while we go through this is very stressful too. I will be in Denver for a week in 23 days time when we can sort stuff out together. We count down days apart, since we were together, until we’re together again...it will feel really weird not to be counting. Hopefully Jamie will get her visa and travel to Middlewich early in the New Year so we can get married and be together for good.

Reading this site and the experiences of others really has helped us both, we thought we were the only one’s going through this.

Awww.... Congratulations!!!  I am sooooo happy to never have to say goodbye to my DH ever again after waiting for so long.   It's such a good feeling, but sometimes it's even harder once you get it... you wish you could just jump on the plane right then!!   ;D  I had to wait a month after getting my visa before I could move.....
*sigh* so glad it all worked out!
Good luck to you with your move!  YAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, everybody! I called all my family the next day and celebrated again over the phone each time!

Alb and Jamie, I understand the stress. It caused all sorts of health problems for me, but I did learn something from it; turns out, I don't react to stress as well as I thought!

I tracked my package via FedEx as well, and knew the date and time it arrived at the LA Consulate. I recieved two e-mails from them the next day. The first e-mail I got told me that they recieved it and are processing the application, and to allow for 12 weeks to have it finished. I nearly died. However, half an hour later I recieved another e-mail to allow for 5 working days. So that was confusing.

The day my visa was approved, I first got a call around 9am from a woman from the consulate asking for more information. I have caller id and it showed as unknown name and unknown number; so I would keep an eye on your answering machine, if you tend to screen calls. About two hours after the first call, she called back and told me that it was issued.

I expect a similar time line for the two of you, but that's just my assumption because it's the same consulate, by post, around the same time as mine. I'll cross my fingers for you!

My husband and I will be living in SW England, in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. I haven't been anywhere north yet, where you two will be. During my visit I was only able to be in London, St. Neots (Cambridgeshire), and further east in Norwich. I was sick for the other half of my visit so I was stuck in bed!

I'm going to purchase my plane ticket for the 27th, so I'll arrive on the 28th of this month.

You guys will be fine, too! Jamie, I wouldn't let the waiting kill you; it makes a wedding rather inconvenient. =P
