Is the question 'when did you last enter the UK' or is is 'When did you begin the period of leave for which you are now claiming ILR?'

the question is
QUOTE"
When did you (the main applicant) first enter the UK? This refers to the date of your first entry into the UK at the beginning of the period of stay on which this application is based."
UNQUOTE.

Another strange thing.......I never thought about it before......Isn't it NOT ALLOWED to switch from visitor visa to WP by an in-country application?
Did they mistake my visitor visa with my earlier EEA permit??

For reference, the chronology of events:

EEA permit 29th Nov 2002 to 27th May 2003.
Entered UK on this on 29th Nov 2002 and departed 4th Dec 2002.
Re-entered UK on the above permit on 5th April 2003 and departed on 23rd May 2003.

Visitor visa 25th may 2003 to 23rd may 2004.
Entered UK on 25th may 2003.
Switched to a WP on 8th Nov 2003.

"at the beginning of the period of stay on which this application is based"

So, as I said, but Nov 03 and explain.

Assuming that you are a non-visa national switching used to be allowed.

both visas before my WP mentioned the words "C-Visit" in the type of visa.
Would that be a EEA permit on both occasions?

Switching for EEA family member was (is?) allowed AFAIK.

A bit more direct than Vicky...  What kind of passport do you have?

US with a PIO card.

They don't care about the PIO card.  For a US passport, the earlier switch is fine.

Thanks Garry.

I am sure the switch was fine because they did process the application in-country (actually my company got it processed through Walter Smith Stone in Kent).

My only concern was that both my visas mention C-VISIT when i am sure my first was an EEA permit (it was free) and the second I can not remember if I paid or not but I travelled alone on the second visa, so I assume it was a visitor visa.

Right Guys....here it goes.....
Single appplication including my spouse as my dependent, sent by post today.

Now starts the waiting game.......

Any guesses how llong to get the acknowledgement, then passport back with stamp along with all my originals?
Do they keep any originals or return all of the submitted docs?

Thanks to Victoria/Garry for helping to clear a lot of things before we applied.....
