Chesham, Bucks??
« on: January 26, 2010, 07:09:01 PM »
Hello - Can anyone tell me what Chesham is like? Nice for a small family? Pretty village? Personal opinions? I checked upmystreet but would like some personal info. Thanks! :)

Oops, missed this earlier.

Chesham's OK. Parts of it are nice, parts are distinctly not nice. The part called Waterside is not very nice. But it's next to Amersham - and the old part of Amersham is absolutely lovely. Chesham isn't really a village, nor does it have that feel - more a large town. The high street would have pretty much everything you'd need and there's a Waitrose in town and a huge Tesco in Amersham, so it's convenient. There's a tube stop in Amersham which is nice if you have to commute to London. There are three GP surgeries (it's pretty populous) two of which are moving into one new building that will be quite nice.

I personally wouldn't choose it (there are a lot of much nicer villages in the area) but I can think of worse places.  :)

ETA: I lived in south Bucks for six years, work in High Wycombe, and now live further north (still Bucks, but closer to Oxfordshire) and my job requires me to travel all over the county so I know it pretty well - happy to discuss further if you want to pm me.

Thanks AnneR. A friend of my lived in Wooburn with her family for a while and absolutely loved South Bucks. She said it took her about 30 mins to get into London from Gerrards Cross. She wasn't familiar with Chesham though...I think Chesham may be too long of a commute for me though...and hour and 15 min to get to Bank. Thanks again for your thoughts :)

Wooburn Green is lovely. I lived in Gerrards Cross for 6 years and to be totally honest I found it snobby and unfriendly. Chesham is quite different, but it still isn't really my cup of tea. But there are some lovely villages in the area!
