Horseback Riding in Manchester?
« on: October 08, 2008, 03:24:09 AM »
I'll be moving (in a month!) from San Diego, California to Manchester.  I've gotten my Visa, so now I feel safe looking for places to horseback ride (previously I somehow felt I was tempting fate...).  I'm not bringing a horse over, but I've ridden for awhile (I do three-day eventing) and have worked/trained for my current trainer for a few years now.
Does anyone on this board know anything about riding in Manchester? We'll be in the Rusholme area originally and near the University no matter what. I've found a few names via Google, but I'm sure there are riding schools out there not on the web, and I really appreciate personal recommendations!
Thanks.

You could try the Yellow Pages for more results (www.yell.com) - if you do a search for riding schools in Manchester, it should list all of the riding schools in the area :).

There are quite a few riding places in Manchester, probably none too close to Rusholme (as Rusholme is really urban) but when I was an exchange student at MMU, I joined the horseriding club and went riding I think it was every two weeks, its probably still there.

There is a big riding school on the M60, not too far from the city centre. Its probably a bus or two to get there. Don't know the name...sorry! But the best thing about Manchester is that even the most urban areas are not far from the country, so you should find something easy! Good luck!

Thank you! I do have a (short) list of places to check out...but it would be good to have more!  Thanks for the "yell" idea.  That hadn't come up yet.

BIL and SIL live in Northenden and they're within walking distance of Wythenshawe where there is a riding school.

I'm not sure what it's like not having actually ridden there but might be worth investigating.

I think that's a great idea. I'll look there, and I have an email in at the Manchester Equestrian Centre.
Right now, though, I also need a job to pay for it...and that is taking awhile!

I have also looked into this, both in considering moving my horse over and in investigating prices of lessons/leases if I don't.  (I'm also an eventer!)

I've found the British Horse Society list pretty helpful as well...at least, in the theory that the BHS won't approve stables that are total crap or treat their horses badly.

Yes, I've looked there as well!  It helped me find the yard where I am...although if you want a "full" story feel free to PM me.
Yay eventers!
