Of course I missed the whole Calif bit while making school lunches  :-X  Can anyone tell me what areas he covered in Calif????

if you get time, watch it on BBC iPlayer... that's what i did this morning.
It wasn't all that interesting, though... apart from cute seals and otters.

I thought the part about the lava fields in Hawaii was awesome.... to believe 20 acres of land has been built up by lava in 6 weeks time is amazing....
I also enjoyed the bit about Barrow, one of my professors went on whale hunts with the Inupiats and wrote several books about it, so it was interesting to see the people I've read about... who now use GPS to find their way in the dark...  ;D

I liked it again.  I think everyone has been a little disappointed by the coverage of their own states throughout the series, because there's just not enough time to show all the good stuff in each state.  Sometimes they frankly didn't even try to show any good things.  I still enjoyed watching though.  I just wish it had been longer/more.

Oh, and I adored those otters eating off their tummies.  :)

I thought there was stuff further south the week before.  I'm pretty sure much of the Tahoe footage was on the CA side, but I could be wrong.

i have very happy memories of standing on a kodiak beach with my young children watching those playful otters. did you know that they place a flat stone on their chest so they can crack open shelled seafood?

I thought it was a really wonderful series, and I enjoyed every single moment of it. I was just so happy with his message, which was really, Wow, this is a huge and beautiful country, get out and see it for yourself. I loved it.

I'm very late to this thread, but I just watched the first two episodes and am really enjoying it. I wasn't expecting Stephen Fry to be so generous in the way that he portrayed most of the people he spoke with. Totally agree with you, racheeeee.

I wasn't a big fan of his before, but now I'm a convert! Can't wait to watch the next episodes.

I thought it was good, if a little rushed. Yes, technically he did go into every single state but some he just skimmed through.

I liked seeing bits of the country that you don't normally see.

And I loved seeing Lake Powell. That's where we'd go when I was a child for our summer holidays. It was nice to see again.
