Brown Sugar
« on: November 14, 2008, 12:41:07 AM »
Does anyone know where I may be able to find light brown sugar.  I believe here in the UK they call it 'soft brown sugar'.  I'm dying to make a homemade pie with all the Granny Smith apples I have.
Oh, I'm in Edinburgh.

You should be able to get it in any grocery store.  Its usually called Muscavado (light or dark / regular).

Any supermarket.  I did a count at the weekend, and I have 8 different kinds of sugar in my cupboard, including light brown.

Great!  I'll check under the name Muscavado. Thank you.

Tesco carries both muscadavo, light and dark as well as brown sugar light and dark.  I read somewhere that the difference is that muscadavo is more natural and has not gone through as much processing.  Muscadavo works just like brown sugar so you could use either

I find brown sugar here tastes very molasses-y.  Anyone else agree?

But that's what makes brown sugar brown...the molasses!  I've substituted before...
Unless you mean that it tastes more than molassesy than in the states? I've not noticed a difference...

Yeah, that's what I meant.  I really think it does and I don't like it!
