Transfer Itunes
« on: August 24, 2007, 12:53:45 AM »
I gave up a few things moving abroad, including my PC.  I failed to think that all my Itunes were on it, and panicked upon realization.  After much googling I found away around the issue.  I thought I would share for those that are frustrated or use more than one computer for their Itunes needs.  I found out that I can transfer all my purchases with the click of a button from my ipod directly to my new computer, although non-purchased things will not transfer they will not be deleted.  You can authorize up to five computers for your ipod, lucky for me, as all I have from my old pc is the hard drive.  I hope this helps, and feel free to give me advice, as this itunes thing is relatively new to me.

You can also deactivate computers if needs be (like if you need to reinstall windows).   :P

If you have a billing address in the US & the UK you can have an iTunes account for each country (you'll just have to use a different email address for each).

Thanks Criostin, I will have to figure out how to deactivate my old computer, it is like Johnny5 and has been disassembled.  Keen idea about the email account for the UK store, there are ways around roadblocks, leave it to a forum to find the detour!

So I was hunting on this topic, as I have my laptop and iPod with me with US iTunes.  If I install iTunes UK on Tim's laptop to buy some UK iTunes only things, can I sync BOTH to my iPod at the same time?

Anna- should be able to as long as you authorise both computers to your ipod.

BTW, if you want to get non-itunes stuff onto your computer from your ipod, you can use yamipod. It's a web-based program (no installation needed) and allows you to basically browse your ipod and copy stuff TO your computer/itunes. It's really easy to use, too!

Shouldn't that be the opposite? Authorize the iPod on both computers?

All this to get the John Barrowman CD because US iTunes doesn't have it.  *sigh*

Well it says in the menu "Authorise this computer" ??? Doesn't matter really. In the end, as long as you get your John Barrowman CD. Of course, I could tell you another way to get that.... (PM me if you want!) ;)

You cannot deactivate any single computer unless you are in iTunes from that computer.  If your computer is in pieces, you'll have to contact iTunes to deactivate all computers which are activated on your account and then reactivate each one individually.  You can keep track of how many computers are activated by looking at your account info through the iTunes store.

Actually, if you logon to your account at itunes, you can deactivate all your computers from there.  I've had to do it three times.

I thought that I've done it before, but then I couldn't find the option to deactivate all computers so I thought maybe I was just imagining that I've done it before.
