I did some classes as well. One on taxes that was outstanding. Another on self-assessment was not very helpful. So my experience is it was hit-and-miss, but the one that was good was _extremely_ helpful. Probably worth sitting through the bad one.

The guy teaching it actually found out the personal situations of everyone in the room (there were only 4 of us) and gave us advice and suggestions tailor-made to us. It made a huge difference for me in knowing how to fill out tax forms.

See, I found the self-assessment one to be very helpful in my area.

Oh, I forgot to mention the classes are totally free!  DH said he wasn't surprised.  It's the one branch of the government that always has money and wants to do all they can to make sure you get your money to them. :)

wow - free classes?? I like the sound of that. Thanks, guys...I will definitely look into this. I got my forms through today, and they look relatively straightforward. Now, why can't the IRS sort themselves out and become helpful, simple, and transparent??
Ok, so I'm smug.
