Work Permits Alert
« on: November 21, 2008, 09:38:40 PM »
A fault has been discovered in the system that prints out approvals and refusals for work permits.

If you have a work permit in the pipeline, you'll need to double check with your solicitor, or have your solicitor double check for you.  UKBA are saying they need to go back over each one to determine what's happened.  Apparently, there's a nascent possibility that your approval might be a refusal or vice-versa.

This is especially the wrong time for this to happen because the deadline is next week and there are no provisions for a system failure like this.

I don't reckon they will be eager to paste this news on the front page banner of their site, so feel free to vector this post.

OH!  This is NOT a joke either.   ::)

How far back does this extend? And does it affect IEDs or just new permits?

And you wonder why we don't have much confidence in them? :P

They are saying quote, "the last couple of days".

If you are affected, you'll have to get in touch with them before next Thursday.

Could you give more detail, such as where this came from, who is likely to be affected, what do we say when we call?

It came from THEM!  :o  If you are affected, I suggest telling them that you are chasing a WP, along with client details and so on.

I would tell them that on 27 Nov and thereafter work permits will become obsolete and your clients will not be able to apply (review, etc, etc) beyond that date if they have been refused.  Because of the nearness of the date (Thanksgiving, I might add), you are monitoring each application.  Then Garry informed you that a fault was discovered in the system and that you should check on the status of each application in order to discharge your obligations under the Commissioner's code.

Obviously I know about the deadline; but I am concerned from what you have said that giys who have been approved will rock up for entry clearance only to be told that it was a glitch and they should have been refused.

I'm off to bed now, but would be grateful if you could explain in depth by e-mail or PM.  I'll reply when back from court int he afternoon.

If they were supposed to be refused, there would be a record of it in their transcript, and this record would override whatever the system printed out.  But if they didn't find out by close of play next Wednesday, then they need to go the full T2 route.  Even though it wasn't the client's fault the system fault occured when it did.

I don't suspect any foul play.  It looks like an honest *bleep*-up.
