Moving Back to SC - Health Ins
« on: January 12, 2009, 08:39:58 AM »
Hi all,
You guys have been very helpful in the past and I just wanted to share a little info, I am a dual citizen, my USC hubby and I lived in the US for 11 years, then we moved in 07 back to the UK (as the kids were small and it was a now or never decision), we are now packing up and moving back, various reasons, but we think its the best decision for us at the moment (not ruling out coming back sometime in the future!), anyway I have been trying to get health coverage when we arrive, there are several of companies that won't cover you if you have not been in the US for the past 12 months (I spent ages on different sites only to find out that they won't cover us! very fustrating), I eventually ended up with Blue Cross Blue Shield, the start dates on the policy are the 15 or the 1 of the month and you have to be resident at that point, we are moving on the 22 so our coverage (if approved) will start on the 1st, we are heading to Disney world before going back to SC so we need insurance from the 22 - 1 of this month, the expatriate insurance seems to be for multiple months and is pretty expensive, so I looked at travel insurance but if you read the small print they state that trips must begin and end in the UK, some even state you have to have a return ticket, I eventually found a company called world nomads that doesn't seem to have those requirements, if I have any problems with them I will let you know.  I think health insurance has been the hardest thing to sort out, so many choices and so few choices (if you know what I mean!).  Hope this helps somebody.
