« on: November 30, 2008, 04:17:06 AM »
I'm arriving in Manchester with my 2 cats next Sunday. They have 'Home Again' chips, do i need to rent a reader or will they have one?

Take a look at this thread http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=48906.0 and you'll see my experience with Manchester, Continental, and HomeAgain chips - which were all fine.

Are you flying BA or Continental?  If you are flying Continental, you have to stop in at cargo customs (same strip of buildings, just in the middle rather than on the end) before picking up your pets at the Pets on Jets building.  I've just gone through this on Oct 26th, so please feel free to PM or post here with any questions.

I'm flying Continental. Thanks for the info about the cargo reception - didn't know that. How long did it take you to get the cats after you landed?

(I'm also about to become an ex-jersey girl after living here for 6 years!!!)

Total from the time we left the airport, drove over to the cargo area (with one u-turn from getting lost), parked, walked back and forth between the two spots, etc, was about 1.5 hours.  We waited about 20-25 minutes in the customs office alone for the clearance paperwork to be processed.

Continental was great.  Another note - if you're taking them to Newark, Continental has its own terminal building with international departures on the lower level, domestic departures on the upper level.  The Pets dropoff area is actually on the lower (domestic departure) level - very first set of doors.  If you're on the 10pm flight, the actual Pets drop off area is closed, so you just have to go to the QuickCheck cargo office right around the corner (go out of the building, go left, and right on the corner is the door for the Quickcheck cargo dropoff).  Also, give yourself PLENTY of time.  I was on CO 100 - the 10pm flight, got the kitties to cargo drop off at 745ish, and also had a LONG wait for international check in b/c of the one-way ticket.  I got to the gate only 15 minutes before we started boarding.

Best of luck!

My 2 cats arrived safely with amazingly very little hassle after a stressful year long planning process. Continental and Newark/Manchester were amazing and made the whole travel process almost pleasant (except the plane went back to the gate on take-off as the back door had been left open and i was sure my cats were on the runway!!!!!!) - now i just need my husbands visa approved so our little family can start our new adventure!!
