Don't want to speak for Vicky, but I think she was more worried about your ability to pay your fines as part of your budget.  Criminal convictions are the ones to worry about.  Civil are well, not usually even considered, though it is best to disclose it if you are uncertain.  Criminal convictions generally don't come into play unless the maximum penalty for the crime was 2 years in prison.  Even then, UKBA tends to look at what you got convicted with in the US, because the US tends to be harder on folks then the UK does.

I had a "real" criminal conviction that was 2 years probation and I haven't had a problem.  It was the only thing I had, so it didn't show a history of criminality.

If this is the case, what a relief.  It will be no problem in our budget, and we may even have them all paid off by the time we apply, depending on exactly when that is.  I think the max penalty on DWLS is 90 days in jail.  Either way I only got a fine, no jail.    Thanks so much for the info!!
