Washing machine help...
« on: January 18, 2009, 08:48:13 PM »
Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to remove a motor safely from a washing machine?  Its on the blink again and I think it needs new brushes or a whole new motor.  According to my local washing machine service repair centre....they can not find the type of brushes i need as my machine is not speciffically listed and so have asked me to bring in the motor for inspection.  I have done minor repairs to it in the past..but looked at the motor tonight to try and remove it..but it looks a little scary ! :o

The guy is a client of mine..I know he is not trying to rip me off or make a huge profit out of me  :)

Is this a front-loading machine?   The main drive motor on these is usually located below the drum and mounted so as to be part of the overall drum suspension system (i.e. fixed to the drum mounting so that it moves with it on its dampers and springs.

If you remove the rear panel, you should be able to access the motor underneath the drum, although some of the newer machines don't have a removable rear panel, in which case your best bet is to lay the machine on its side and go in from underneath.

Newer units often have multi-way connectors which are just a push/snap fit onto the motor terminals, but if there are multiple connectors and it's not obvious which is which or which way round they go, make a note before disconnecting them.   Also, make a note of exactly where washers, spacers, and similar mounting hardware go as you unbolt the motor.

And I'm sure I don't have to remind you to unplug before starting, do I?   ;D

Yes its a front loader Washer Dryer.  It has a removable back panel.  I have located the motor but it has tons of of electrical wires hanging off it / plugged into it...I think I am going to do the girly thing and call my dad to come do it  ;D

If you don't get it resolved maybe you should try it?  (God I almost wish I still worked for Currys to hear this at work...)   [smiley=laugh4.gif]
