The Millennium Years
« on: January 07, 2009, 09:43:57 PM »
For those of you who remember all the hype and fuss prior to the 90's about all the "amazing technology" and other things that would exist by the year 2000, how do you feel about the reality of it all? Are you let down by the fact that we don't live in a "Jetsons" sort of world or are you not really surprised that things haven't *really* changed all that much? I'm mostly interested in hearing from those born before 1970 but any/all response is welcome  :)

I'm a product of the '80s, but I'm not really suprised.  Technology went further when the Cold War was still going on: just look at the advancement in the '60s!  There was that push both financially and mentally, that dissipated when it did.  Now financing that was once for advancement & friendly competition is now squandered.

And yet nobody saw the personal computer coming, and nor the Internet. Together, they changed human existence more than the flying car or vacations on the moon ever would have.

You might find the blog Paleofuture interesting. It's about what people in the past thought we'd be up to by now.

I'm still waiting on the food replicator like from Star Trek - no more cooking or food shopping!  ;D

That'd be great, but we do have Star Trek to thank for automatic doors!   :)
