Yup :) Came to Brighton for uni and never left :) Although I probably wont be here much longer, maybe another month or so.
Sorry if that last comment sounded a bit creepy, I was just glancing through your myspace from the link in your sig and I saw a picture of your flat and it looks like the bottom of my street :)  I'm not some creepy stalker - I swear!!! :)

Bored of the whole Brighton thing, open mic poetry and pretentious guys in skinny jeans with guitars they can't play on their back, baby emos everywhere and acoustic/folk just all the freaking time!  I just have complete Brighton apathy at the moment.

And Jobs, of course :) I'll run out of games companies eventually in Brightonia :)

Don't get me wrong, brighton is a great place...but been here far too long and need some new excitement :)

I made the mistake of buying a new Xbox 360 before we left the states.  Neither the games or the unit will work in the UK.  The transformer required would be about £100, and changing power cords would be about the same.  The games and DVDs in the UK wouldn't play either.  I found a unit for £150 on Amazon.

My daughter and I will be Rock Band fiends and NHL.

eh? That doesn't sound right at all :) We did it all the time at work so we could play import games.

The Power brick should sort out the voltage conversion, you just need a plug adaptor for it to work. You will have a problem with region locked games/DVDs, but the games you bought over from America should work and you can buy import games from ebay etc (in fact I think you can use european games on a ntsc 360 but not vice versa)

It may have been a problem with your tv not set up correctly.

A plug adapter won't work; and the transformer required for the power draw is too much.  With the Xbox, the game unit is the same.  The power cord is different by region.  My US unit is a 110V brick and cord.  The UK is 220V.  I could have bought just the second power adapter, but it's 80 quid or so.  Once I get the power working, then I can't play UK games or watch UK movies.  I am able to move the hard drive over from the unit I bought in the US though.

£100 for a power cord?!   :o   That must be the solid gold version.

and the transformer required for the power draw is too much.

Manufacturers' proprietary power units can be pricey as they have something of a captive market, but a generic step-down transformer so you can run your existing 120V power unit from 240V supplies shouldn't be too expensive for something like this.

I'm not an Xbox fan and I'm not familiar with the units, but surely for what they are they can't draw more than a couple of hundred watts or so?  At that sort of power level you could get a step-down transformer in a case with U.K. power lead and U.S. outlets for about £30 to £40.

Can anyone confirm if you can replace the 110v power brick with a UK 220V brick, like a direct swap? I have a US 360,and would prefer that(if it's possible) to getting a stepdown transformer. Thank god for PS3 though, region free games and the system is dual voltage, just need a plug adaptor if you have a non UK system.

My gamer tag has changed, I am now "TehNavie"

heck yes, l4d is awesome!   Except my 360 has red ringed twice now, and then immediately come back to life again. I'm afraid to play with it, or even look at... Im living with Schrodinger's 360.

If I recall, you cannot use US 360s in the UK regardless of adapters , I dunno tho.

DH's 360 did that before it went kaput. Good thing is, just call Microsoft and it is most likely covered by the warranty. It took about 10 days and I'm pretty sure they just sent us a new one.
