If you had one last spring break...
« on: January 23, 2009, 05:41:37 AM »
where would you go?

This is my last "real" semester of college and I want to do something fun on my spring break.

I can spend around $1,000 - I've been saving for this.

I'm going to be traveling on my own, as all of my friends now have "real" jobs or different spring breaks.

I don't want to go to England as I'm going to try to go there for a few days in May.

I'd prefer to go somewhere I haven't been to before. So far I've been to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Purto Rico, Spain, Portugal, France, England, Scotland, Germany, Italy Greece, and all but about 12 states.

I would love to do some type of volunteer work.

If it were me, I'd go to Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro.

You haven't been anywhere in Asia, and 1000 bucks isn't much.  India?  Thailand?

I'm looking into volunteering in India, but I'm not sure.  :-\\\\

I can make $1,000 go a long way. My best friend and I travel around Europe for about a month and I only spent around $1,500 total.

I just found a really cheap flight to England, so now I'm torn between going there and going somewhere else in May, or going in May.

I say Turkey!  Though if you are a single woman traveling alone perhaps Lipbalmaddict suggestions are better!

 Good luck!

My friend spend 3 months volunteering in an orphanage in India. She said it was heartbreaking but very interesting and fulfilling.
IME, what are the 12 states you have missed?
You could do England for Spring Break given that the £/$ is a bit better for you right now.
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.

I've missed:

Alaska
Hawaii
Oregon
Washington
North Dakota
Wisconsin
Connecticut
Delaware
Massachusetts
Rhode Island
New Hampshire
Vermont
Maine

Sorry - that's 13, not 12. I can't count.  :-[ And I forgot New Hampshire when I was trying to figure it out before.  :-[

I'm finding lots of spring break volunteer programs online, but none of them are for the same week as my spring break. Or they want you to commit for longer than a week.

alaska in the spring is not the best time to visit...it's called "breakup". think layers of dog poo...and everything else you can think of...slowly melting after about 6 months of snow. not nice. i experienced 10  breakup's!

hawaii is wonderful...especially if you plan to live in england in the future (too far to travel). my favourite of the islands is kauai.

i'm not sure how much it is to travel from the US...but moracco is amazing....once you get there it is so inexpensive. it is somewhat challenging as a single woman..but so far the most amazing place i've visited.

thailand with a hut on the beach was to be my next destination...but i got a bit sidetracked.

there are lots of volunteering opportunities...but to me spring break is a time to refresh...but that's me. once you get to the UK the VSO has so many amazing places to be a volunteer.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever get to live in the UK again.  :\\\'(   My boyfriend is American, I have a job here after I graduate, and there just aren't any visa options for me.

For me, spring break is a time to give back. I've been blessed with some really awesome people helping me through the years and some really great scholarships/stipends to get me through the last couple of years of school. The past two years I went to New Orleans to help rebuild homes.

I think, through some hometown connections, I *might* being going to Guatemala and volunteering with an orphanage.  I really want to work with adoption/foster care when i'm done with school, so this would be an amazing opportunity for me.  :)
