Is 30,000GBD a good salary?

I was offered a salary of 30,000GBD for a social care position in Croydon. I was  wondering if this is a good enough salary to live comfortably [single adult].

Right now, I would kill for a salary that high !

I am a single British woman and I am living off about 13,500 pounds a year at the moment... I have two masters degrees, but as of yet only have a job in retail while I am attempting to find a graduate job in the geophysics field, which will hopefully pay somewhere around 20,000 pounds a year or so, maybe a bit more if I'm lucky . I can currently afford to pay my rent, bills, food, transport and mobile phone costs and still have a couple of hundred pounds left over each month to put in savings, spend on socialising/clothes or maybe even pay for a summer holiday abroad.

The average family in the UK lives off around 30,000 pounds a year (if not less), so as a single adult, you should have no problem with that salary at all .

See, that's where you're going wrong - you need to change fields from Geophys to Social Worker.

One more question, considering taxes, what would be a realistic figure I'm taking home ? Somewhere around 20,000gbd?

sorry, just can't get past "GBD."  What's that Great British Dollar? -assuming you meant Pounds Sterling or GBP.

DH and I have been doing fine on about £30K per annum.  We aren't in Croyden, but in Cardiff, which has a lower cost of living, but it works for us.

That is a good salary as far as I am concerned. I don't actually know anyone locally who makes that kind of cash. That's more than twice what I make working full-time, and I have a master's degree! (But we are in the country and there aren't too many options for employment out here.) Good luck with your decision!

Yes, £30k in Croydon is just fine.  You could likely find a 1 bedroom flat of your own with that salary.
