Eurostar & St Pancras Station
« on: January 11, 2009, 03:21:07 PM »
This may seem like a silly question but here goes..
I have just booked to go to Paris on Eurostar with my friend.
We are leaving at 6.55am as this was the latest cheap outgoing train of the day.
We paid £118 for the 2 of us (return) which seems like a really good deal.
We are planning to take First Capital Connect from St Albans to St Pancras, arriving St Pancras at 6.02 and we have to check in 30 mins in advance so have to be there for 6.25 really.
How far of a walk is it from the First Capital tracks to Eurostar? I presume they have dedicated tracks? We cannot miss the Eurostar as our tickets are non-flexible.
Not jazzed about getting up that early but I have been through worse.. 8)

I'm pretty sure it's all right there.  I've never done Eurostar from St. Pancras but I did spend a few hours with a train nut looking at all the trains.

The Eurostar section is part of the same building as the FCC section. You will be there less than 5 minutes after you get off the FCC train.

Yes, the Eurostar section of St Pancras is blatantly obvious and you cannot miss it.  Once the FCC trains come in, there's signs everywhere telling you how to get to the Eurostar platforms.

Be a few minutes earlier than you need to be.  We did this before Christmas as the queues to get through check in were a bit chaotic.

Thanks everyone, I was sure I was panicking about nothing but thought I would ask the experts on here.
We are going mid-week so I hope the queues aren't too horrendous but will plan to be there for 6am or so.

We went from St Pancras to Brussels in October.  ALL of the machines were not working.  There was a queue of about 500 people.  Luckily we had got there way in advance because we stood in line for at least 45 minutes to get our tickets.  Everyone was royally pissed off and the staff were not doing jack about it, obviously they needed a technician in to fix the machines to collect tickets.

I don't know what a mid-week journey will be like.  There might be business people taking that train as it'd get them into Paris or Brussels (not sure where you're going?) in time to be at work in either city.

We had the most annoying UKIP conservative people sitting across from us our whole journey, laughing it up in the most annoying way on our trip  :o

We did this on FCC getting the first train of the day last November - it left roughly on time but the train got stuck on a hill (really!) so was delayed by 45 minutes.  We caught the Eurostar with 5 minutes to spare - meaning no time for a coffee & a slow amble at St Pancras!

Just to say that delays in October and November were mainly due to the fire restricting services and resulting in a lot of people having journeys altered and therefore having to do manual check-in.  This has now changed, service is much better, and I am very sure (based on my experiences on 23rd December) that your time scales are fine.

N.B.  I just realised that I always pick my tickets up a week in advance as I pass through Kings X on my way home, so my times are only based on goign straight to check-in.  If you need to pick tickets up, leave more time, and don't go to the first machines you see, are there are loads which are often unused.

I had mine sent through the post, I was not taking any chances  ;D
I made my reservation on Sunday afternoon and had my tickets yesterday so, not bad thus far.
I think 6am is too early for champagne, even for me  8)

Not if you start drinking the night before  ;)

Have a great time!

Eurostar was amazing, what a way to travel. And I especially liked passport control at the port of departure and not arrival.
But sadly I didn't see the champagne bar  :-[
