Hi, I'm Greenweenie, I moved to the UK seven years ago after marrying my British partner.  I haven't always loved life in England, but it has grown on my over the years.  I came to this website when I first moved here, in an effort to fill a void because I felt so lonely and was having a hard time adjusting to the move.  Now I have returned from the flip side of adjusting to a new life in the UK to ending an adventure and marriage in the UK.  I have had a browse on the forum, but am not to sure which area to begin posting questions and asking for input with regards to divorcing a Brit and relocating back to US.  Would appreciate anyone who could give me some forum direction where I can start my quest for information on how to handle this delicate situation.  Many Thanks!

Greenweenie, originally from Michigan

Wow, I just posted this 12 minutes ago and already had 12 read and runs! :-)  That's one per minute.  Certainly someone has some advice or even a warm hello if no advice.  :-)

Well here's a warm hello for you....

HELLO!

Sorry I can't be of much help in regards to the divorce issue, but I know I've seen recent threads that included divorce information.

Hello, going back to the US isn't that big a deal, but the divorce depends on a lot of factors, of course.  You need to speak to a legal professional.

That would be my guess as to why so many look and runs.

I'm fairly sure at least one other person has posted a similar question to yours, Greenweenie. I'll have a look around and see if I can find the thread.

Edited to add:
I found this one: http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=47901.0

Have a search around and see if you can come with any others. I think they're out there, but they may not be all that recent.

Hello, and welcome back to UK Yankee.

I'm sorry things have not worked out for you and your spouse. :( Seven years is a long time.  Adding a big move to the breakup is probably especially stressful.  I hope you get some advice on your divorce and repatriation plans.  Somebody with a better understanding of UK Immigration will probably answer your other post soon.

Thanks to all of you who didn't read and run!  I can imagine I probably would have done the same, as it's a difficult topic.  I will have a better browse tonight and see if I can't find some uselful information. I am surprised there isn't a section for Divorce, as it's unfortunately such a common thing.

Anyways, take care and thank you for your time!

Thanks to all of you who didn't read and run!

Your topic subject is intriguing-- so i imagine a lot of folk clicked on it to see what it was all about.  But not everyone is going to have the answer to your question, so why should you expect a reply if they can't help you?  Your subject line says that you want help.
You also posted at like half 3 in the afternoon, when a lot of people are at work and not on the forum.

Have a little patience next time!  :)
Hope it all goes smoothly!

Hello, and sorry to hear that you're divorcing.

The only advice I have is; do not move back to Michigan. We're one of the worst states in terms of economy and job prospects right now. I'm getting out in a month to go to the UK and it's a huge relief.  :-\\\\

Sorry, no help here either, as I've not been in your situation! But I do have sympathy.

Are you looking for advice on the divorce procedure itself or moving back to the US?

Hello Greenweenie!!!   ;D  Love that name....

I can't offer much in the way of advice, but good luck with your move back and getting your life sorted out.  Hopefully someone here will be able to offer some helpful tips for you!

So very sorry to hear that after 7 years. Where were you married? If you were married in the U.S. you can go back and file a divorce there. You have the right to stay in the U.K. while a divorce is pending. But I thought I read somewhere you can even file for a divorce from the states to end it in the U.K.

Keep hunting for the info as it is out there and then you can begin your journey back home. All the best........
