I'd vote for Sunday, I don't usually have much going on Sunday night, and I'd prompt me to go walking on weekends  ;)

Sunday sounds good, maybe this is just the motivation I need to get out and get walking more with DD. How to lose weight? Go looking for money!

Ok Sunday's for reporting what is found in the week...next question: When should we start? Maybe this coming week starting on Sunday the 15th keep track through Saturday night the report on Sunday the 22nd? And so on? Maybe we can put the thread under Other Games or even here in Money Matters and call it Finders Keepers? I dunno, just throwing out idea's and looking for input.

Here's my suggestion.  Just go ahead and post a topic like 'How Much Money Did YOU Find?'.  I'd put it in Games or Chit-chat ( a lot of people have games blocked so you might not get as much participation).  I'd probably take it easy on the 'rules' because that tends to stop people from posting, but you might want to have a 'running total' kind of rule-like post home much you found per week but keep adding to a running total-like this:   Week of 15/02/08 - 53p  Total: £5.34.  Also, you might want to have a few rules about what is found money-is it found if it's in the vending machine?  Pay phone?  Street?  Your own couch?
But I wouldn't have to much more discussion.  Just go ahead and start your thread.  People will join in.

A few years ago I was at Manchester Airport waiting for a flight, browsing in the WH Smith there I heard a family behind me, the gist being that the little lad (about 6 or 7 years old) had lost his spending money for the airport, mother saying he should have taken more care and couldn't have any more, kid crying. I did look round and see this family.
They went and I continued browsing the shelves and looked down and saw a folded up £10 note. I immediately thought of this kid, picked up the money and went to see if I could find them. I saw the father and said "Excuse me, I overheard that your child had lost some money and then I found some in Smith's", he called his son over and I handed it back to him, he was so happy.
I don't think I could have kept that money had I not found them, I'd have most likely put it in a charity box - it felt so much better handing it to the lad than the feeling of finding £10.

Same trip, in Madrid, my GF found a  €50 note and felt bad keeping it as someone had lost it, so we gave it to a homeless person.

However, I also once found £5 in a supermarket trolley, I kept that.

I found someone's credit card (Platinum level at that) lying on the ground- no one around to claim it.  I called the bank to report it found- that person hadn't yet reported it gone. I could have gone on a huge shopping spree (in the states where they don't have the same precautions for shopping in stores or online with credit cards).  But instead I was a good samaritan!

I love finding money in pants pockets or jackets or just somewhere you didn't realize you had money tucked away. Its always such a reward!

I've also found a credit card, right outside of Petco.  After I did my shopping (with my own funds), I took the card home and called the customer service number shown on the back.  The person hadn't reported it lost or stolen, but the credit card company said they'd cancel it.

DH and I were leaving Tesco yesterday and a woman behind him at the self-checkout lane tapped him to remind him to pick up his change. He immediately grabbed the £10 note and we looked around to see if anyone was looking for it but saw nothing...so we got a chippy last night.

I will say though that I typically try to return found money if I can.

My mom also once found $500 in an envelope on the playground at my Catholic Elementary School. There was no one else on the playground and just as we were about to take it home with us, a woman drove up and jumped out of her car in tears pleading to know if anyone had seen her children's school tuition money in an envelope which fell out of her purse. Clearly this was hers so we returned it.
