Why do I see our future as visions of Wall-E, all of us floating around in our easy chairs, fat as a house, entertainment made by TV alone, liquid chocolate, everything done by robots...
Humans are lazy. Lifestyle changes are hard. Magic pills are easy!!
Maybe that will be a new fashion statement, rubber underwear so that it can collect our *explosions*
Ha

Oh I dunno...I hope not...That kinda lifestyle sounds pretty "pants" to me  ;)

What's the point of eating avocado if it isn't creamy and fatty and delicious?

There isn't one! :P Besides, avocados have good fat in them, the kind you actually need! Not all fats are bad for you, it's mostly just the ones that come in baked and processed goods that are bad for your health. I'm a firm believer that everything is good in moderation! I eat light mayo and salad dressing, but the fat free stuff is nasty, IMO. Better to have a little fat and more taste, methinks.

Well, it's started already... we had at least 2 people come into our pharmacy today asking for 'this new diet pill that's been advertised'! Problem is, it'll still be several weeks before we start selling it and none of us have received any training on it at all yet  ::).

Ok - I've been watching this post and I didn't want to say anything earlier because of the view most people seem to have of people who have tried Alli (orlistat) but I'm going to come out and say that yeah - I tried it! And I did NOT have any "leakage" or "explosions" of any kind! No rubber underwear or diapers needed! Granted, I was working out and following weight watchers as well as making sure that my meals didn't have more than whatever grams of fat (15g?) they said to avoid. But I wasn't trying to use a "magic" pill to lose weight without effort - I was just trying to supplement my efforts at weight loss (which I have found to be a really difficult process - I don't know if its my genes or whatever - yay for being Hispanic, but even with a personal trainer and following weight watchers religiously it took me AAAAGES to drop weight). Which is how I think the pill is meant to be used - to try and help decrease the absorption of fat, when you are already doing what you can to lose weight traditionally.

Now, whether it works or not is clearly debated heavily - but I got a vial of the pills at a highly reduced cost and I thought it was worth it. I didn't use them long term (didn't feel like putting out more money for something that may have been questionable) but like I said before, there weren't any "nasty" side effects apart from yes, some oil in the stool but it wasn't noticeable until it was already - well, out of me.

I think its not such a big deal if people use it the way it is meant to be used.

A higher dose of the pill is currently prescribed to those on the Boots Weight Loss Programme and my pharmacist has said that it works pretty well, providing that the people enrolled on the programme make certain lifestyle changes before they are given the pill and also maintain that change and have regular check-up appointments with the pharmacist every few weeks.

That's fair enough - if it is taken correctly alongside healthy eating and exercise, it can work, but the problem may come when people can just buy it over the counter and will not necessarily make the required changes to their diet/lifestyle to ensure that they don't experience any horrible side effects.

Reinadeluz, I know we were poking some fun, but I'm sure none of us would dog you for trying it - and as was previously said, you were using it as a supplement rather than a magic solution. Hopefully others would do that, too, rather than popping that pill and then having a chippie!  :P

I tried Alli too.  I did have some trouble in the beginning.  Then I started cutting alot of fat out of my diet.  After that I didn't see so much use for it since it blocks fat absorption.  I didn't like how the pill allows you to eat atrocious things without penalty.  You lose weight but do not need to learn healthy eating habits...but I must admit that it worked as claimed.
