That is true! Buttering tomato sandwiches is a good idea because they tend to get really soggy, too. Unfortunately, I only like mayo with my tom sammidges - so I just have to eat them very quickly before they have the chance to sog!  ;D

I knew you had good taste but this proves it!  Oh I can't wait for summer and tomatoes!  I'm planting my seeds indoors this weekend.

I find that toast helps keep away sogginess...
Chary, have you ever had a tomato, avocado, and cucumber sandwich with cream cheese (or mayo if you don't like cream cheese, but I am pretty sure I remember you are a cheese-a-holic)? It's theeeeeee BEST! But it works best on toasted bread or bun. (Minus the spread!)

That sounds good!! I've done it with sprouts instead of cucumber, and havarti instead of cream cheese - but either way would be YUMMY! Maybe I'll try your version but add some sprouts - I do like me some sprouts!  ;D

I toast all my sandwiches made with sliced bread- no sogginess whatsoever!  Who needs butter? :P

Yum! Tomato and mayo sprinkled with salt and pepper on whole grain bread. Definitely no spread, butter or anything else needed. :P

I LOVE tomato sandwiches, especially with heirloom tomatoes.  MMmmm, I want one now.  But I never put butter on the bread, just mayo.  IMO the key is to have really good bread.  My mom is a good baker, so she makes homemade bread every time we have good sandwich tomatoes.

When I was on the Atkins diet many years ago I missed bread like mad...I contemplated spreading butter on cheese slices, even had weird dreams about it !! Diets make you have crazy thoughts! :-X :P

How I ever thought that diet was great for me was madness!!

So, why is it that butter or spread has to be put on every slice of bread, no matter what kind of sandwich you're making with it. Even for peanut butter on toast, my DH still wants spread before I put the peanut butter on.  Or a tuna sandwich--spread, then the mayo and tuna. Why??  So many unnecessary calories and fat grams!  (DH says it tastes dry without the spread.)   ???

Because butter tastes good and moistens the bread a bit!
I totally agree with your DH!
