Another bouquet/fresh flower alternative, which I thought was AMAZING:

to avoid the cost of flowers, my friend (whose wedding was at the beach) gathered together some small glass containers and filled them with seashells, then just layed out a handful of flower petals around the table.  i loved it!

The only flowers we actually had at our wedding were the bouquets & bouts (yellow tulips and white & yellow daisies), one vase of yellow tulips, and the ones on our arbor (a simple metal affair bedecked with white tulle, daisies and blue ribbons).  Our centerpieces, etc were made of ducks!

We're doing the fresh flower route, though. I love flowers too much not to have them!!

But I am thinking of getting some of these bags to put on tables to encourage people to take flowers home with them. That way they won't go to waste:

I'm having a bouquet and flowers in my hair.  We're not having them on the tables, can't justify the expense.

Some friends of mine are growing the ones for the tables for me. They won't be free, but certainly not as expensive as having them from a florist. I'm all about local, seasonal flowers.

My bouquet was just a simple wrapped bunch of tulips, and my sister's and best friend's were the same, except with daisies, so my mother just took them home, untied the ribbons and put them in water, and they lasted for days - my bouquet was still lovely when we returned from SF a week later, and the daisies lasted longer that that!

A lovely idea. I don't think any of my friends have gardens

A cousin used little pots of African violets for the tables, then told everyone to take some home.  That's cheap, and they looked good.  Maybe hit a garden centre and check out what's on sale/order up something for the date?

I used plastic flowers.. rented them along with the plastic 'cake'.  They do some amazing stuff with plastic.  I was opposed to the idea until I saw prices for real cakes and flowers.. and they really did look fine.

(Dad made real cheesecake for dessert.)

Those paper roses look fantastic, but also like waaaay too much work for me.
