Bed and Breakfast

We are very interested in the idea of having a B&B in the UK, and I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience running one (or knows of anyone who does)?

Just information gathering at the moment, but would greatly appreciate any input!

They are wonderful ;D
I'll say anything to get back home.
I actually didn't know you left the UK until I saw something strange on your 365.
Now if we can get Balmerhon back there also.

S, I have no experience as you know (aside from staying in them)! But we did do some research on running one in the US and there are a lot of things to think about. Will post back later...
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

No personal experience here, but I have several friends who run B&Bs in Wales. And my mother ran one for years in Rhode Island. Do you have specific questions, or are you just trying to get an idea about whether or not it's a viable option?

Mostly to see if it's a viable option.

We're in an interesting situation: my in-laws are getting older and soon they'll need some help. They'd be prepared to sell up and go in on a B&B with us, providing extra hands and support with our kids. It seems like a dream come true for us, but I need a reality check.

I understand there is a lot of red tape and hoops to jump through in the UK, and so would like to know how realistic all that is. Some idea of a time frame perhaps, from buying a place to becoming up and running?

This might give you a starting point and answer some of your general questions.

It sounds like an exciting plan!  :)
