I'm desperate to listen to a Football Match!
« on: March 14, 2009, 03:08:24 PM »
I've downloaded Real Player and had Radio 5 Live playing, until what I wanted to listen to had to be cut off of the radio for "contractual" reasons!

Does anyone know a link to a radio station online that actually works, I'm specifically trying to listen into BBC Manchester, but I thought I knew I'd get SOMETHING out of Radio 5 Live.

I also have XM radio through Direct TV if anyone knows the channel numbers that might have the match on?

Thanks!

PS, has anyone gone to a match and just wanted to whoop and scream the whole time, and been the person who annoyed all the quiet people around?

They have songs they sing for a reason!  Get Loud!

Are you in the states?  Unfortunately, if the Man/Liv game is on BBC, you may be outta luck. I got on Fox Sports Channel and that particular game is not going to be shown on Sky sports, so FSC won't be showing in; however, you can turn over to it and perhaps watch highlights when they come on.

Sorry. :-[

I'm a WestHam fan, myself, and since I have been visiting over here, have been able to see more of their games than my DH over in England. He wasn't very happy about that!

Yes, I am in the States.

I am a Bolton Wanderers supporter!  My husband is at the game now; I want to impress him with my knowledge of the goings on once he has gotten home.  Which it is easier to do when listening on a radio station, but I am following it on the internet well enough I suppose.

You're a Bolton fan? Well, you are in luck! Bolton is playing Fulham on channel 144 (FSC) tonight at 7:30. I always check (while I'm here) to see who is playing.

I am here until 15 April...will have been here for 10 weeks when I leave, visiting my daughter and three grandsons (son-in-law in Iraq). Ten weeks didn't look that long on paper...it's been a long time.

Thanks for helping me,  I found FSC on 619 with my TV provider (Direct TV) and It must be in a special sports package because my parents don't get that channel. I'll just have to accept the internet telling me that we lost 3 to 1,  :-[

I hope to be there by early - mid April myself, I'm waiting on my spousal visa though.  Not only would I like to see the last 4 home games for Bolton, (which I'll be lucky to do even though I only expect to see 3)  but my brother - in - law is getting married the Saturday of Easter weekend!

Thanks Again!

Man/Liv was on Setanta US.... and Man U got a walloping. :)

It's costly but but you can get a Sports pack with Fox Soccer and then add Setanta and you can get most games.  We actually get more here in the USA as we did not have Sky in the UK.

Bolton play the same every game.

1)  Foul a lot

2)  Dive a bit

3)  Play a 9-0-1 formation, in the hope of getting a draw.

4)  Bonus games involve scoring an early goal then 'parking the bus'.

Seriously, though, if you can't listen through 5live, then read the live text on the BBC sport website.  It is very funny, and more informative and neutral than listening to the commentary.

Just curious, Vicky, what team do you support if any?  Thank you for the live text tip.

I will mention, that I actually know very little about a good game of football.  So the following arguments may not be worth much...

I only remember following Bolton while they have been under Megson, and those who I have spoken to at the games I have gone to do not seem to approve of his management.

I will agree that when they score and have taken the lead, be it early or not, they take a defensive stance, which I personally disagree with.

What team doesn't  "dive a bit"?   Look at the top 4....  I feel, just like the outrageous salaries that the players get, that it has unfortunately become part of the game.  More and more a good skill for these guys to have, is Falling Artistically.  A necessity in the Premier League.

I am a season ticket holder at Arsenal, and have been watching them regularly since 1990.  I also go and watch Barnet, my local team, who are languishing near the bottom of League 2, so quite a contrast!  I also go and watch pretty much any team I can if I have a spare weekend, so the last few seasons have been to Littlehampton, Eastbourne, Atalanta, Wingate and Stevenage, to name but a few. And we have tickets to see Chicago Red Stars on my honeymoon.  Yep, I am obsessed.

I have friends who support Bolton, and they are frustrated with their style of play, to say the least!  I can't recall watching a more boring team since Arsenal in 1991!!!

Oh, and don't worry about the caveat.  Football is fair game, challenging is part of the fun.

(I suspect this thread will be moved to pastimes soon).

If you want to listen to Bolton games have you thought about subscribing to Bolton World on their website? Get radio commentary of home and away league games (I think FA Cup isn't covered under the contract) and also game highlights from the next day.
I think you could also listen to other clubs that have the "World" package as well.

This is available out of the country, as a Barnsley fan I know ex-pat fans listen this way.

Also - do a search for forums - many of them will have people listening to the game on the radio and commenting on it online. it's what I do for away games.
