Last May we flew from Newcastle to Lanzarote and it was absolutely amazing. We also aren't into the holiday party scene and just wanted a nice relaxing holiday with good food and nice scenary and so we booked a self catering apartment in the Playa Blanca area of Lanzarote. It was super cheap (flights were with Thomas Cook and we booked the apartment on our own for £10/night!). It had a large number of German tourists and famillies and most of the chavs were at the other end (the party end) of the island.

I definitely recommend it for a fun, cheap and beautiful holiday!

I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

Oh and also, depending on your budget, EasyJet also do flights from Newcastle to Nice and it is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to. Pretty beaches (tho pebble, not sand), beautiful old architecture, amazing food and loads of culture. Much much more expensive than typical Spanish, Greek kind of holidays but it really is lovely.

Gorgeous! Where did you find the apartment to book? I would love to do this with the kids.
