For Tier 1 visa is it mandatory to travel within 3 months?
« on: April 03, 2009, 05:44:28 AM »
Hello,

I have got Tier 1 General visa approval for 3 years. I want to know what is the time frame within which I have to travel to UK. I have read in some forums that we have to go to UK within 3 months of getting the visa approval otherwise the visa becomes void.

How much of this is true?

Thanks & Regards

From UKBA Visa Services Homepage ( http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/faqs/5167621/2969423):

What is the latest date that I can arrive in the UK with my visa?

The expiry date will be shown on the visa, but remember that this is also the last day on which you are permitted to stay in the UK.

I suspect you're reading old information that relates to the old scheme where your entry clearance was separate from your work visa. Tier 1 combines the 2 so the 3 months doesn't apply. HOWEVER I learned on another thread that delaying entry can cause you to have to get more than one extension down the road in order to reach the magic 5 year mark. I don't know the details about it though so I'll leave that explanation up to someone who really knows.

hey madhuri
When you got your tier 1 visa in the mail, did they just send you back your passport with the visa added to a page of it and all other documents you sent in? Did you also get anything like an approval letter or something that the consulate wrote to you? Im just curious cause I just got my tier 1 visa yesterday and it was just my passport that had changed on one page. Im not suppose to be getting some other kind of letter from them too, right????
just curious! thanks :)

You applied for a visa and got a visa. There is no other information you should have been given.

The "other kind of letter" has to do with something else that's not within the PBS.

Hello socalgal,

I also just got my passport with the visa stamped on one page alongwith all my other documents. There was no other letter.
