Come on Hewlett-Packard throw me a reliable computer.

Business is down all over and maybe in some cases it is deserved.

A case in point HP charges you to tell you their products are defective and you need to buy a new part and pay to have it installed.

One thing though they gave me the phone number of the parts department and they didn't charge me for giving me the phone number. (sarcasm makes me feel better)

I've had the computer 14 months but based on their warrentee of 12 months that is all they think they will last and they should know.

Buyers beware.

I don't know what you have, but my daughter's 2-year-old Compaq Presario 6000 series laptop just got a free repair due to a "service enhancement program,"  aka recall that they won't tell you about.

I found out about this when I took it for service at a shop near where I work.  The woman there told me that she'd not even open it and charge me $40, because she knew what it was.  She explained it, and checked something on her computer, confirming it was covered under this program.  She also had 2 more of the same model in for repairs.

I had to do some troubleshooting over the phone, letting them know I was aware of the program.  Within 24 hours, they agreed to a free repair, even sending me proper packaging and covering all shipping expenses (Federal Express).

The service-enhancement angle might be one to check.  Good luck!

My little Shuttle mini PC has been going like a champ for 4 years. I want it to start going just a bit funny so I can get a new computer, but it insists on just keeping on working. I steer away from big names like Dell, HP, Compaq but that's a personal thing.

I like knowing who's servicing my computer.  Thankfully for me, that's also the person who built the computer: myself.  It only gets troublesome when I need to complain to the techie... ;D
