Expiry on spousal visa once granted? 30 days?
« on: April 14, 2009, 06:21:18 PM »
Dear all,

My American wife(I'm British) and I are planning on moving over to Britain from the US. Once a spousal visa has been granted is there a set time by which it has to be used. For example, should her visa be granted on 1 May would she have to be in the country by a certain time? I believe I read that we only had 30 days to use the visa somewhere, but this seems an extremely short timeline as compared to other countries. Can someon clarify this for me?

Thanks,

Chris

There is no 30 day limit, she can enter at any time after the day that the visa becomes valid.  If she leaves it too long she might face trouble when she applies for ILR/probationary citizenship, however spousal visas are issued for 27 months now, so as long as she enters within the first three months of validity she shouldn't have any trouble.  Although, visas can be post-dated for up to three months, so the smartest thing to do would be to decide when she wants to travel and have the visa issued beginning that day.
