Vitamins/Minerals not available in the UK?
« on: April 29, 2009, 10:16:44 AM »
I take a mineral supplement, fiber, in the form of capsules. Basically Metamucil in the generic form from Walgreens.

I went to Boots and Superdrugs, ASDA, Tesco...you name it. I even went to the vitamin shop in Lichfield looking for the capsules. All I was shown was the powder you add to liquid (I can't take it that way, I throw up). When I asked for tablets or capsules I got the DEER-IN-THE-HEADLIGHT look.

Anyone know where I can find this? Asking my family back in the states to send me anything from home gets me the "its so expensive" and they make me feel like a burden for asking for shipping anything to me. The craving American food sites listed only sell foods, no vitamins and minerals.

Any ideas?

Metamucil Capsules Fiber Therapy for Regularity 300 ct

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Metamucil-Capsules-Fiber-Therapy-for-Regularity-300-ct_W0QQitemZ400023916347QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090113?IMSfp=TL0901131210003r35431

That is for 300 pills.
Kind of expensive..tho!

I get mine online. But wish they had them over here.

Can you find empty capsules--either gelatin or veggie-based?  If not I'm sure you can order empty caps online and because you can get a big pack and they weigh next to nothing, shipping costs should be minimal.  Then you just put the powdered fiber into the empty caps

By the way, not to be pedantic (it's just that I worked in the supplement industry for years) fiber is neither a vitamin or a mineral--it's just, well, fiber.  :)

Have you seen these?
http://www.nutritioncentre.co.uk/p/846/Natures_Own_Psyllium_Husk_Capsules.html
I have ordered from this company in the past and they are good.
While there have been a few exceptions, I am able to purchase most of the supplements here that I was able to in the states.
Hope this helps.

Have you tried Holland and Barrett? (not sure if that's the vitamin shop you went to in Lichfield)

I've just done a search on their website and you can currently buy 200 Psyllium Husk Capsules for £4.99 (RRP. £9.99) - http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=124.

They have a store in Lichfield (41 Market Street) and also in Tamworth, Stafford, Cannock and Burton too, but if they don't have it in the store, you could always order it from their website - they only charge £1.99 for shipping :).

When you say Metamucil, do you mean Psyllium Husks that come in a capsule???
The ones that look like the picture below?
If you google Psyllium Husks, you can buy them anywhere. Also, I use Fybogel, its the orange flavoured fiber drink. They sell that at boots.

at naturallygreen.co.uk they are £5.49 for 100.
AND Holland & Barret have the same thing, £9.99 for 200

Hope this helps!!
