food storage?

I'm going to be moving to Newcastle soon, and I'm trying to figure out whether I should bring my food storage stuff.  I do a lot of baking, and I have Rubbermaid-type canisters for sugar, flour, beans, etc.  I like having stuff in the canisters instead of its original packaging because it is so much neater and easier to see.  Has anybody found a particularly good product/system to use in the UK?

I searched for containers to use at Tim's, since I love my tupperware containers, and the best I could find was at IKEA.  Generally, IKEA in the UK has the same stuff as IKEA in the US, so if you have time, check out an IKEA or try their website.

We recently bought a really nice set of Sistema storage containers in varying sizes from Costco here in the UK. (Martha Stewart was on about these on her show while I was in the states recently) I like them a lot. And when I use them for tomato-based leftovers like lasagna, they don't stain which to me is really impressive!

I also use Lock & Lock canisters for sugar and flour and I have one that they make for dry spaghetti. You can find them at Lakeland and amazon.co.uk if you want to check them out.

I'd bring them if I were you and you have the space. Replacing them will be a hassle.  I can never find ones that I like in the sizes that I like.   At the moment I'm collecting old Tupperware from charity shops and car boot sales. 

I could never find anything in the UK I liked so if you have the room, bring it.

I'm with Mindy and balmerhon.  I'd definitely bring them.  In fact, I'd bring everything if you are really into baking and cooking.

Aww, I was hoping you guys would say, "What foolishness!  Leave them behind!"    I did look on the Ikea website and found something that I liked for big food containers.  Maybe I'll  wait and see if there's any extra room in my check-in luggage; the silly things are just so bulky!  This does help confirm my decision to bring my smaller, Pyrex food storage things (for leftovers and whatnot).  I really do love them, and I didn't see a similar set on Amazon UK.

I am bringing almost all of my baking stuff.  I bake when I feel insecure and stressed out, and I imagine that will be happening quite a bit after arrival.    This is actually reminding me that I meant to buy an extra set of measuring cups before I go. . .

Having little things like your baking stuff and storage containers will definitely help you feel more at home when you are feeling insecure in the early days. I agree with the others, bring them!

Not sure if it was just London, or just my area.. but I had major problems with Asian cereal moths.  They can drill through most store packaging FAST.

I never knew such things existed!

I brought my Pampered Chef measuring cups and stuff my sister gave me and my Williams-Sonoma metal measuring cups and spoons and every single one of my baking tins and trays and cookbooks, including my 1993 version of the Southern Living cookbook.

I keep all that stuff my Mama and sister gave me even if I lived in a tent.

I love to bake and cook.

I never lived in London and never would but nonetheless if baking is what brings you happiness then you will suss out a workround no matter what so bring the lot and top it up with IKEA and the like.
