My Glass Is Half FULL!
« on: December 30, 2009, 06:24:38 PM »
So one of my New Decade resolutions (actually, pretty much my only one, but it's made up of a bunch of components) is to be a better person. One component is to quit whinging so much and to see the bright side of things. So in a step toward that I give you this thread - a bit of a variation on the IA/UP thread, but this one has a very strict rule - it has to pay tribute to the little things in life (or the big things if you like) that make you smile or it has to take something that could have been a massive irritation and turn it on its head!

I'll start with an example of each:

- I just hung up some posters that have been leaning against the wall of the dining room since we moved in in March - and they look awesome. Small little task that I just kept putting off that really made me happy.

- The cat just very kindly barfed up a hairball on the tiles rather than the carpet and so I cleaned it up with a smile.  :D

I love making cookies for Christmas and I use old tins to store them.  Mine have been pretty dull old McVities ones, but M&S had some nice looking ones this year.

I went and got some that look awesome on sale.  The one shaped like a book and another shaped like a Routemaster bus.

I am also grateful that I ate so many of my own cookies this year that I don't even want to open these and I will take them into the office.

As an aside, if anyone got the white cheese biscuit tin, with the little mouse on top, and you want to get rid of it, you know where I am!

I love it!

I am waiting to leave to the UK BUT I only have 9 days left in the office so I am smiling and happy to be here (kinda)

I was on the verge of getting rid of all this old, sterling silver and amber jewelry I have had since at least high school but have been unwilling to wear for years as they were all tarnished and dirty and ugly looking.

Well, I discovered yesterday a magical cloth that when rubbed on tarnished sterling silver makes it look brand new! I felt a bit stupid for never trying to figure out how to de-tarnish my jewelry - but I'm focusing on how happy I am now to have essentially doubled my jewelry for less than $15! Yay!!!

Seeing this thread helped me with something that happened tonight:

my laptop got a horrid virus on it tonight. Had to disconnect it from my network straight away to prevent it from communicating with it's source abd from attacking our unsecured network harddrive. I've lost about 80% of what I had on it and it will take hours to uninstall and reinstall the operating system...

...but it does give me that window of opportunity to do a clean upgrade from
vista to windows 7 that I've been putting off.

I almost burned my MIL's house down. Sigh. (I didn't notice that I'd flicked the corner of a t-shirt just that much too close to what turned out to be the world's most powerful lightbulb).  There was smoke.  There was panic.  It was 3am.

And DH was an absolute doll.  Even when I couldn't articulate why I was a) furious with myself (I did look and think "nahh, it's not that close) and b) totally embarrassed, he just took care of the problem and his only worry was whether or not I burned myself yanking the smoking shirt off the lamp.

Seriously, the glass may be full of wine to help soothe the nerves, but it's certainly half-full today.

I haven't done a single thing on my To Do list the last two weeks, while my son is on winter break.  But, it's meant I've had a lot of giggles, fun and slug time with my Bunny.  It was actually bugging me that I hadn't accomplished anything, and this thread made me realize that it hasn't been all bad!

DH and I have launched our new business and since I took this huge leap of faith in November to start doing web design, the jobs have poured in.  We have not stopped for 8 weeks and I'm so grateful!  2009 was such a suck-tastic year but I'm really looking forward to 2010.  New business, new lease on life.  It's nice to slough off the old skin and start new.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…
