I keep looking at my jewelry box wondering what to do with it. I don't have a lot of expensive pieces but I have sentimental stuff that I don't want lost, and I don't want the rings/earrings that do have some value to get lost.

How did you all handle this?

Gone are the days of locking it in your luggage, and having it in a shipping container for however long isn't an option...

Yes, I packed it in my carry-on. Got one of those small jewelry travel wallets, stuffed it all in that, and brought it with.

definitely put your jewelry in your carry on, never put valuables in your check-in bags

Yep. Me too. Although, to be honest, I don't have any jewelry that is particulary valuable.

I am really into my jewelry and have tons of it- though none of its worth any monetary value, just sentimental.  I brought in my carry on the stuff that would make me cry to loose/couldn't be without for a few months.  The rest came with the movers.

Yep, mine is of no value either, just things I love.  :) I agree with the idea of taking in carry on things one would either be sad to lose or can't live without for the couple of months it might have been gone in an ocean shipment. That is really good, succinct advice/criteria for what should "come with".

My uncle bought my mom the jewelery box I use when he was stationed in Okanawa in the 50s, so I plan on taking out all the jewelery and wrapping it carefully in clothing in my suitcase that goes under the plane. Each piece of  valuable jewelery is going in an individual tiny (2 inch x 3 in) plastic baggie and then into a larger zipper bag inside my carry-on.  Anything with little to no value is either being abandoned, or can go in a shipped box!
