very expensive desk clock
« on: May 11, 2009, 11:39:32 PM »
My partner and I are on the cusp of moving to the UK -- last interview is next week, but they've strongly indicated there will be a job offer afterward -- and I'm now faced with packing, moving, etc.

Obviously, this Forum is an absolute God send.   ;D

Question, though:  he owns a very expensive, delicate clock he uses -- and treasures -- in his office.  Certainly something he's able to carry in a box, so it's neither large nor heavy, but he is OBSESSED with it becoming damaged during shipping.

So, is this something he could bring on the plane as a carry-on?  I imagine they'd need for him to unwrap the bubble wrap and take it out of the box and all that stuff in security, but is this something he could do?  Slide it into the overhead bin -- carefully -- and know it's going to be relatively okay?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.   :D

Thank you for responding.  All things considered, it does seem to be the best way to ensure it's protected.  I just hope the airline will allow it which actually was the crux of my initial posting.

Is this something anyone has had experience with?  And would one just mention it when booking the ticket, be prepared to unpack it as I described above when going through security and hope they don't think it's something it's not?

The more I can answer, the less he's gonna worry about it.    ;D

Well surely when the run it through the scanner they'll be able to see it doesn't have explosives in it and if they really care, they'll run those papers over it to see if there are traces of explosives on it.  I wouldn't worry  :)

Of course.  I hadn't thought of that.  Thank you.  Now he -- and I -- can stop worrying about it.

Now I have to figure out what's the best cable TV provider to go with in London.  Off to the appropriate forum!   ;D
