edible paraffin wax

I want to make these and the recipe calls for Gulf Wax (paraffin) but it says that you can use shortening as a substitute. Wondering if anyone has used either to make candy and if I could use Trex?

Thanks!

You could try adding shortening to smooth out the chocolate or use a higher butterfat or higher quality chocolate.  Heavy cream works well too.  All it does it make it look shinier and smoother.

They look nice!

You just might get some if I actually get motivated to make them!  ;)

I bought Trex, so hopefully that will do the trick.  :)

How did they turn out? I love Peppermint Patties!

Oh, sorry! I've been meaning to post about this. They turned out nice, but the mint filling isn't as creamy as a peppermint patty, but still yummy. The chocolate didn't have the shine, but I only used a little bit of shortening. Overall a thumbs up.  :)
