I'm thinking, meat and well if it were me... I'd probably do a game parfait or a terrine or something, that could be served cold and sliced with good bread.
Now, it isn't really game season, so I guess you could make something like this?

It should look something like this :

But now, I'm thinking Samosas...I really like them cold and they're a bit different and they're really easy and your family may not have had them before.
Now I don't have a recipe, because I'm recipe phobic, but my mum's homemade involve :

Minced Lamb
Peas
Turmeric
Fresh ginger
Garlic
Shallots
Pepper
Cumin seeds
Garam Masala
Fresh coriander

(I suspect you could use curry powder instead of the spices)

And obviously the pastry, as a cheat you could buy and use frozen filo pastry and bake rather than fry to keep the calories down.

I was also thinking, strawberry tarts, and using creme patisserie rather than cream as the base. So sweet shortcrust, creme patisserie, sliced strawberries and a little jelly to glaze them. mmmmm

If you want to make a pork pie, my friend (not really!) Rick Stein makes a gorgeous one!
I add loads more fresh herbs to the meat  (parsley, sage, tarragon) and omit the anchovy essence (bleh).
I also make the jelly by buying organic pork stock or making a double stock (i.e you make stock, then strain it, then add more stock ingredients to make it double strength) and adding gelatine.

You could also add whole boiled eggs to  the pie and pack the meat around it, I never do that as I hate boiled eggs.

You could also use good quality pork mince or ask the butcher to mince the pork shoulder, rather than doing it yourself, BUT it has to be good quality or it will be really fatty.

Or make a ham pie, or a chicken and leek pie, or a pork and choritzo pie or really any kinda meat pie. PIE! :D

What?!  Thanks for letting me know!  The package was there on the table, but I couldn't read the ingredients, the print was too small....I'll stay away from the cheese and onion ones now!  :D

I have pictures of the backs of a few of them that specifically mention they're vegetarian.  It was really weird to be able to try the turkey one at Christmas!
