Sending gifts to SOs in the UK?
« on: June 07, 2009, 10:48:05 PM »
Hi all,

Do any of the folks in the US have experience of purchasing items online from UK-based sites and shipping them to your S.O. in the UK?

I've done this through Hotel Chocolat's UK site (luckily, bf is a major chocoholic!), but so far they're the only site I've found that will accept billing from the US, but deliver in the UK.  I can't send him chocolate every time, though!  So, any ideas?  Anyone aware of UK online shops that accept PayPal?

Thanks!

I've used lastminute.com. I was pleased enough with their service, if unimpressed with the selection.

Amazon.co.uk is good.  They take American credit cards. I'm not sure about PayPal, though.  I've also just ordered from regular UK websites.  I sent my husband a Dalek for his birthday the year before last and just searched the internet for a site that sold what I wanted, and ordered it from there, to be delivered to him.  Easy peasy.

Marks and Spencers will deliver things to a UK address with a US billing address.  And you can send anything they've got in the store.  I nearly ordered Tim's new suit for him tonight.

While I was in the UK, I also was able to order things online at Debenham's and Boots with my US card.

OOh, be careful with Paypal!  I ordered a photo calendar from photobox.co.uk for Tim for Christmas and paid via paypal, and paypal shut down my account for two weeks because my billing address and shipping address for the order didn't match!

Thanks for the warning about PayPal!  They're never my first choice to deal with; bf's had too many problems with them in the past.  But I hadn't heard that the difference in addresses could be a problem.
