which line?
« on: June 06, 2009, 09:05:14 PM »
My apologies in advance if this was covered already! :-[

During my last trip to America my husband was standing in the non US passport holders line and I was of course in the other. When I got up to the post, the immigration officer asked where my husband was? and I said "in the other line" and pointed at him. The officer told me to call him over and said he didn't have to stand in that line if he was traveling with me.

So I was wondering when entering the UK, can I stand in the UK passport holders line if my husband is traveling with me or no?

As far as I know, yes.  That's what DH and I do, anyway, and we've yet to have any issues.

So along these lines, J is traveling with me to America at the end of this month.  We're not married, so which line does he stand in?  And vise versa on the way back (through Paris)- then up here...  We're traveling together...  I am curious...

when we went to the US in March, we all had to go through the non resident queue.  Keith had to get fingerprinted and all that jazz, so you may need to go through with him.  I don't know about on the way back, as I was solo with the kids this time.

They have fingerprinting machines at all the stations. We went through the citizens one in LAS, LAX, MIA and JFK and they fingerprinted him without issues.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Since you're not married, you go through your separate lines and meet on the other side. That's what we've always done and no problems. Even now that we're married we go through our separate lines in Dublin (since I still get a stamp and produce a landing card and he doesn't), but we will probably go through the same line when we go to the US since everyone gets stamped in.

Thanks, that confirms what I figured  :)
