Transfering Tmobile to UK account
« on: June 16, 2009, 05:45:06 PM »
Does anyone know if its possible to "transfer" your US Tmobile account to a UK Tmobile account without paying the contract penalty on the US account?  (I am still under contract in the US)

I don't know, but you might be able to get out of your contract in the US if you show them you are moving out of the country.  I did this with my provider when I moved to the UK.

I wasn't able to transfer and I *was* in the middle of a contract.  Since the penalty was more than the total cost of the remaining months on my contract, I just paid the rest of my bills after I moved to the UK and cancelled as soon as my last bill was paid.

I don't use T-Mobile, but when I had to renew my contract with Verizon Wireless for 2 years, I asked them specifically about moving out of country before the contract was out, and the agent I spoke with told me that as long as I have proof of living out of the country (visa and a piece of mail with UK address), they would let me out of my contract without paying termination fees, so call T-mobile and ask!

I asked T-Mobile if they would wave the cancellation fee if I could prove I was moving out of the country, and they said I could only get my fee refunded once I moved over and got some mail with a UK address. It's a slight problem for me since I really don't have the spare cash for the cancellation fee in the first place, but I have time to sort it out still.

Yes, this is what I did.  I faxed them a bill (or my lease, can't remember) and they waived the cancellation fee for me.

I think what I'll end up doing is just leaving the phone with my mom since she's kinda wanted one but didn't want to go through the hassle of setting everything up. I'll just end up going with the same provider my husband uses and all will be well in the world :)
