Hi all,

I've been in the UK a year on a HSMP/Tier 1. I'm planning on quitting my job and going traveling for a year and am trying to sort out my health insurance for while I am going.

Does anyone know if I am still considered a UK resident if I am traveling (and am not employed)? My UK visa is valid until 2011, so I can come back after my travels and look for work.

Would be good to know because if I'm still a resident I don't need additional insurance within the EU.

Thanks!

You should still probably get insurance for being inside the EU.

You are only covered for what each country gives their citizens and in some cases it can still be costly.  Plus, you might need to be repatriated.

I am not sure how it works with your specific visa, but I am sure someone will be along shortly.

I have travel insurance which covers emergencies. But buying comprehensive health insurance is very expensive and not necessary if I can come back to England and get NHS care. But I can't get any answers on this, despite calling a solicitor!

Travel insurance is what I meant.  I am not sure about the rest though.  Sorry.
