Travel insurance? Trip back to US from UK in July...
« on: June 22, 2009, 12:00:11 PM »
Hello everyone!

I'm a US citizen and will be making my first trip back to the US from the UK after coming over to get married in September.  I am interested in getting travel insurance as I no longer have private insurance since moving to the UK (just been using NHS).  I'm not quite sure how to go about this as most companies in the UK have a UK citizen only policy.  Should I get insurance through an American company and use my parents' address as my residence?  I'm a bit confused - I just don't know how to go about this....

Has anyone - US citizens in the UK specifically - purchased travel insurance to visit the US from the UK?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

Check out moneysupermarket.com or gocompare.com and I've found a few policies there that will cover UK residents as long as you've been in the UK for a minimum of 6 months. You'll just have to shop around.

We use atlasdirect.net which covers us for travel to the US and Europe. Definitely get insurance - the one time I went back to the US without it I fell and broke my leg!

I'm a bit late to reply but hopefully you will see it.  I have found that the post office also offers travel insurance and you can be American as well.  I have found the same problem and will look at their rates next time.

When Dh & I went back to the States in May of this year we used a company called Simple Travel Insurance who are reasonably priced. Good Luck with whoever you choose.   :)  [smiley=clover2.gif]

Marks and Spencer does travel insurance which is quite good. Have had experience using it in the states and they were helpful and there were no complications. Well worth it.
