Question - Hotel Voucher
« on: July 14, 2009, 02:25:47 PM »
Have got our tickets for our holiday, and I have a question. Normally we have gone through a tour operator so I have no come across this before. The hotel we want to stay in is not handled by any of the usual tour operators (it caters mainly for German/French and Dutch, not UK/Irish), so when we went to book the holiday the travel agent had to book direct. They called and said the tickets were in and the hotel reservation is in the form of a voucher, which comes with a disclaimer at the bottom saying something along the lines of 'don't be surprised if you show up and there is no room, just call us and we'll sort you out' which as you can imagine has me now worried.

So my question is. Why were we not given a print out of our confirmed hotel reservation, as opposed to a voucher we are supposed to give to reception in the hopes there is a room for us? Or is the voucher the reservation? The holiday is paid in advance.

Do I need to be worried, do I need to call the hotel and confirm everything, or is everything in order as it should be?

Thanks for any help

It may be that the voucher is valid for one of a number of hotels in the booking 'scheme'.  This happened to us when we were in Italy; we had a voucher, but when we got to the hostel the room was not available, so they found us another one which was near-ish.

But if going through a travel agent, I think I'd be less than happy with this.

The voucher is through a company called first4accomodation, which is not the travel agent we booked through (but I assume a service that agent uses?)

So you reckon I should look into this? Darn it, this is supposed to be stress free.

I don't know.  They are ABTA registered though, so you have redress if it goes wrong.

I think I'd e-mail the hotel though, just to make sure.

Hi Stella I would take all the info from your travel agents as well as their emergency contact numbers.

Yes the company they probably used would be a hotel consolidator. I would email the hotel direct if you can find an email address for them. Use the confirmation on the hotel voucher and ask them if they have a confirm booking for you and maybe ask about what happens if you show up and they have overbooked. They should put you in a hotel on the same star rating or high......they should never put you in something less than you have booked and paid for!

Hope this helps!
