Taking a box on a plane
« on: July 28, 2009, 07:16:21 PM »
Anyone know the rules and regs on packing just a box and bringing it like you would a suitcase on a flight. Our situation, wedding gifts, we were just going to pack them as one of the two suitcases on the flight, stick it up with fragile stickers. Is there a way I can find out the size and weight. Or point me in the right direction for that info :) THANKS!

My mom always brings boxes of stuff when she visits me, as long as they are the same measurements that a suitcase might be, you should be fine. Also, carry a roll of tape with you in case they open it at customs.

Definitely take a roll of tape! I brought a cardboard box with me to check as luggage, and I had a long walk from where I dropped my cat to the shuttle. It rained and made my box look very dubious and unglued.

They weren't going to let me check it, but I whipped out a roll of tape and wrapped it like a mummy and they took it.

You don't say who you are flying, but check out their website.  They should have all the information you need about weight and dimension restrictions and/or costs.

As an example, click here for information about British Airways and their baggage specifications.

Forewarned is forearmed!  You don't want any surprises when you get to the airport.

I second what Karrit says.  If you can't find out the info online they phone them.  Different airlines have different rules so be sure to check with the airline you will be flying with.
